Optional rule: massive damage

This is one of the rules present as ‘add-on’ in the book VIII·XII·XX Expanded Rules. I have decided to post it here in a system-less form as a sample of what is present in this book.

When a character takes a single blow that deals damage exceeding 50% of his vitality, he suffers a permanent effect from the blow in addition to the damage. The effect is:

☙ A permanent effect that leaves a slight physical deformity and a minor disadvantage if the damage exceeds 50% but is less than 75% of his total vitality.

☙ An effect that causes a severe deformity and major disadvantage, replacing the minor disadvantage, if the damage exceeds 75% of total vitality (i.e., when the damage is greater than half plus half of that value).

When massive damage occurs, the GM rolls a 1d20 and look up the relevant table below to determine the specific effect the character will experience. If there is any inconsistency between the roll and the damage, the GM should re-roll (or pick the closest available entry). The tables are divided based on the source of the damage—whether from a weapon or an element (the latter being either natural or magical)—and are intended to guide the GM in determining the outcome of massive damage.

CW=Cut weapon

IW=Impact weapon

PW=Pierce weapon

A=Acid

C=Cold

E=Ele

F=Fire

P=Poison
