A Forlorn Venue is published: the third adventure closes this series
And we’re done! The first series of adventures for the VI·VIII·X KUP RPG is completed! The third module has been published with a small delay and I consider closed this cycle!
I want outline that to this adventure as well as to the previous ones (and the future ones too) a rule applies. The approach in these adventures won't satisfy a GM who expects a fully detailed module to follow to the letter without any customization or add-on. These adventures aren't like ready-made meals you just unwrap and eat: these modules provide a setting, a story, and the main characters. And by ‘story’, I mean both the background and the rules for the scenario development over time. These are the essential elements to define an adventure and play it: it's up to the GM to decide how much detail they want to give to their games. I plan to write a dedicated post on this (and I will, I promise), but for now, it's right and necessary to manage the expectations of readers/future GMs.
Let me introduce you ‘A Forlorn Venue’, or ‘Un luogo desolato’ (in Italian), the last module for low-level characters: an adventure set in a village with a very long history. The story begins centuries ago and it then develops over time with a kind of ‘multi-layer background’ which is very close the the feature Baron de Ropp defines as the standard for a good published adventure (see here below).
What is important to my eyes is that with this adventure I achieved my goal to write and play a story where the background is the main element and by such a depth of the story, this adventure has been perceived positively by those who have played it. That’s all for me!

[Parte in italiano] Siamo alla terza ed ultima avventura che conclude il ciclo di moduli di basso livello per VI·VIII·X! Per quest’ultima ho accumulato un ritardo a causa di problemi di pubblicazione che per fortuna si son risolti facilmente.
Ci tengo a fare una precisazione che vale per questa avventura ma anche per le precedenti (ed anche quelle future). L’impostazione di queste avventure non soddisferà il GM che si aspetta un modulo completo in ogni dettaglio da applicare alla lettera senza alcun tipo di personalizzazione o aggiunta a quanto scritto. Le avventure non sono fatte come quei piatti pronti per essere mangiati una volta tolti dall’incarto: questi moduli forniscono uno scenario, una storia e i personaggi principali. Con storia intendo sia l’antefatto sia le regole di funzionamento dello scenario e di come si sviluppa nel tempo. Questi sono gli elementi essenziali per definire un’avventura e poterla giocare: sarà poi il GM a decidere il grado di dettaglio che vorrà dare per il suo gioco. Avevo in mente di scrivere un post ad hoc su questo (e lo farò, ve lo prometto) ma al momento è corretto e doveroso gestire le aspettative dei lettori/futuri GM.
Questa avventura porta i personaggi ad agire non tanto in un luogo particolare quanto piuttosto in un contesto dominato da un antefatto che ha una rilevanza per lo svolgimento dell’avventura. Sono soddisfatto del risultato perchè anche a livello di gioco emerge l’aspetto saliente del background che dà rilievo ai fatti ed alle azioni dei giocatori. Un’esperienza da provare!
Come per le due avventure precedenti, anche ‘Un luogo desolato’ è disponibile a colori in formato cartaceo, con copertina rigida o morbida, e in formato digitale. I prezzi seguono la mia filosofia e l’avventura può essere facilmente adattata a qualsiasi GDR fantasy dal momento che tutti gli aspetti inerenti alle meccaniche sono presenti in fondo nelle appendici.
