Essential questions about our hobby
Over the past few days, I have been thinking about RPGs in a broad sense, and since I am no longer a youngster like many other fans of this type of game, I have been asking myself some essential questions. They may seem trivial, but so often I think we have never dug deep enough to understand the true nature of things:
What do you like about RPGs? (sub: Do you find the answer in other hobbies such as wargames or boardgames?)
Why do you play RPGs? Is there a practical reason (i.e., recreation or socializing with friends), or is it something more personal?
Are you so involved in RPGs that you can't stop, or are you in a position to decide that you can do without RPGs as of tomorrow? (If you could not, do you understand why?)
Within RPGs, are you selective (i.e., only certain types of RPGs or only certain types of rules), or do you like them all unconditionally?
I have the answers ready, but I don't want to create any kind of bias, so I invite you to answer these "simple" questions here (in the comments) or put a link to your answers in the comments! Oh, I forgot: I think it is also important to add the information if you are a player or GM (or author or whatever), because I think the answers depend on this information as well.
PS: apologies in advance if you find yet another post asking the same questions! To be honest, i have read several blogs or sites lately, but have not found anything similar...
