Like the past two years, I am publishing a book too late for Xmas season and I virtually lose the opportunity to spread out the KUP model… that’s life! I am not angry, simply busy and too focused on so many things that I have no time to complain… that’s not too bad at the end of the day!
So for all the readers of the VI·VIII·X Substack, let me introduce you a new publication: VIII·XII·XX Expanded Rules to the VI·VIII·X KUP Fantasy RPG! This is a 90-page book where approx half of it is filled by ‘add-ons’ (rules to be added to the core rules) or ‘options’ (rules which replaces the core rules). Among the several rules, new classes, new skills, new Clerical Canons and spellcasting options like rituals… there are also expansions for combat, like weapon proficiencies and weird and lethal damage results… and many other interesting developments!
The second half of the book is a collection of the series “How to run a KUP game” I posted in the last year here… so, if you want to read this part without buying the book, it is possible: just look up the 11 posts with that tag in the title here and you’re done!
The book is both in print-on-demand (either hardback or softcover version), and in digital (pdf) version available on the Product page or DrivethruRPG. The pricing is the usual, so don’t worry: you can have a ‘self-present’ for Christmas which won’t waste your festivities!
Lastly, some other updates on the overall project.
Firstly, a new version of ‘The Beginning of the Story’ is now available! This version is a variant cover of the original adventure done to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Acaeum, the craziest but most reputable community of D&D collectors (and I am proud to be part of this small group!). It has a silverish cover to remind the silver anniversary! This variant version is available on the Product page or DrivethruRPG. It is important to remark that the 100% of the profits from the sales of this module will be donated to the Acaeum.
Secondly, I am working on a new version of the VI·VIII·X Core Rules, a slimmer, straightforward and lean set of rules to be offered as entry level to anyone interested in trying this game! (Spoiler alert) The book is under revision and will be ready in one month more or less… It will be entitled ‘VI·VIII·X Hackssential’: the idea is to lose some details in the rules in favor of a quick adoption! BTW, this will not replace the Quickstart book as this introduces to the Core Rules.
Thirdly, in the Product page, I added the first Errata Corrige to the core rules (hopefully there are only few things to amend!) as well as a new version of the excel file to generate characters (which will soon be replaced again by the version which includes also the expanded classes and skill from VIII·XII·XX).
Lastly, I have started an Italian version of the Core Rules… however I think that if the VI·VIII·X Hackssential is good enough, I will likely use that base for the Italian version… this is a detail I have to consider before going ahead…
I should close with the usual list of things I have on my ‘to do’ list (the first one is the ‘Where to run a KUP game’ series!), this time instead I will leave you with a cliffhanger: I am preparing a surprise for all of you! Nothing related to RPGs and, at the same time, related to VI·VIII·X! Don’t miss it!
